Baby's first Braves game

Saturday Dutch and I (and naturally Baby M) Went to the Atlanta Braves game. Unfortunately it will most likely be my first and last for the season. Pregnancy doesn't mix will with tailgating, plastic seats, and heat. It was perfect weather, not a cloud in the sky. We got to the stadium at 2 and set up our tailgate.... kabobs, chicken drumsticks, hot dogs, and brats. Quite the spread for just the two of us. It was a night game at the Ted (i.e. no sitting in the sun sweating...) which was ideal. My Bro and SIL joined us and we had a great time catch up while the guys talked fantasy baseball.

Trying to get a bump photo... still just looks like I ate a whole pizza....

Its becoming a little more obvious that the first trimester is when much of the development happens. These weekly updates are getting a bit shorter. Still exciting... sweat glands? wow.

How your baby's growing:

Your baby's skeleton is changing from soft cartilage to bone, and the umbilical cord — her lifeline to the placenta — is growing stronger and thicker. Your baby weighs 5 ounces now (about as much as a turnip), and she's around 5 inches long from head to bottom (about the size of an onion). She can move her joints, and her sweat glands are starting to develop.

baby care for dummies....

I know some of you may have seen this from my bump friend Sarah but its just too funny not to share... I know its the first grandchild on my families side and even the first great grand child for my Dads Mom (tied with my cousin Jenn's upcoming baby) so I hope all of you read this so that we are all prepared : ) ENJOY

16 weeks

Sorry... Im a bit behind... I was going to take a bump photo last night but had a killer sinus headache... anyone in Atlanta have their allergies kick back up the last few days?? I thought we were past that... anyways..

How your baby's growing:

Get ready for a growth spurt. In the next few weeks, your baby will double his weight and add inches to his length. Right now, he's about the size of an avocado: 4 1/2 inches long (head to rump) and 3 1/2 ounces. His legs are much more developed, his head is more erect than it has been, and his eyes have moved closer to the front of his head. His ears are close to their final position, too. The patterning of his scalp has begun, though his locks aren't recognizable yet. He's even started growing toenails. And there's a lot happening inside as well. For example, his heart is now pumping about 25 quarts of blood each day, and this amount will continue to increase as your baby continues to develop.

Stay on the lookout for some fluttering sensations in your abdomen. It might not be right at 16 weeks, but pretty soon you’ll start feeling baby moving around in there. At first those moves might feel like a muscle twitch, but over time, as baby gets bigger and stronger, they’ll be unmistakable. Of course, feeling those movements comes with other issues, like having your lungs crowded by your growing babe. That could make it seem tough to catch your breath from time to time. Don’t worry: There are some positive symptoms you might be having at week 16. For example, some moms-to-be find their hair and nails grow faster. (Your hair might actually look thicker and more lustrous and your skin might look radiant, too. Woo hoo!) Another cool fact? Baby’s starting to be able to hear your voice -- and she’ll recognize it at birth -- so feel free to chat her up

Mommy Update 15w2d

Current Stats:
Baby Size - 4 in Navel Orange

Sleep - Sleeping great. Definitely going to start needing the body pillow or some other support. Still wake up around 5-6am but can go back to sleep fairly easy.

Clothes - A friend at work actually let me borrow a bunch of her maternity clothes. Score! So I now have 3 pairs of work pants, some dresses, and a few pairs of casual pants. I was also pleasantly surprised that after cleaning out my closet the past few weekends, I have a pretty good selections of tops and dresses that should work for a while. I still need to find a good fitting pair of maternity jeans and a few more tops/dresses. I started wearing the maternity work pants today actually. I put on my normal work pants and they did button but because they have a different closure than my jeans, I can make the rubber band trick work to hold them up. And since they aren't stiff like jeans, if I have them un buttoned or even slightly unzipped with the belly band they will fall down... not a good look... I decided to ignore the pressure of waiting until the last minute to "cave" and wear maternity pants. It seems as women use it as bragging rights... "Oh well I didn't have to wear maternity clothes till week 20 or my last trimester... etc etc" Most people with their first pregnancy do start wearing maternity pants near the beginning of the 2nd trimester and hey if it means I can be comfortable sitting at my desk for 8+ hours a day, I'm doing it. My bump buddy Laura gave me great advice this week. She said she has been buying things in the regular section (not maternity clothes) but in bump friendly styles like empire waist or just flowy tops, longer tops etc. This definitely can help me get though the next few months until that great stage where you are just huge and there is no way around it : )

Food Aversions- Its more just thinking about what sounds good at the moment. I'm not really craving anything but nothing sounds amazing either. I can eat when I go out to a restaurant but there is no planning ahead. I cant say, oh this weekend lets cook this or go out to eat here. If I did, I would probably be over it by the time came to eat/cook. I did travel for work this week which was somewhat a challenge. Every lunch was deli sandwiches or something else I could eat. I made it work but it was definitely limited.

Symptoms - Not much... I'm getting a bump... does that count? : ) I have really mild headaches from time to time but nothing major.

Missing - Where do I start... Mexican cheese dip... yummmmmm... my favorite spring/summer drink of a cold hard cider... a glass of wine while were were eating dinner out on the deck last night... the ham and cheese croissant that I used to eat at the cafe at work...

Looking forward to - Dr. appt next Tuesday the 24th, will get to hear the heartbeat again and of course May 4th when we find out the gender! Oh and taking a cute bump picture when I get around to it...

Birthday Painting Party

Last night the Hotties and I did a painting party at Canvas By U. We painted a cherry blossom tree. They have a class from 7-10pm where they provide the paint, brushes, canvas, etc, and a 3 hours lesson on how to paint a certain painting. You can bring wine, snacks etc and just have fun with your girlfriends. We were celebrating my upcoming birthday and It was nice to do something different!

15 Weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your growing baby now measures about 4 inches long, crown to rump, and weighs in at about 2 1/2 ounces (about the size of an apple or navel orange). She's busy moving amniotic fluid through her nose and upper respiratory tract, which helps the primitive air sacs in her lungs begin to develop. Her legs are growing longer than her arms now, and she can move all of her joints and limbs. Although her eyelids are still fused shut, she can sense light. If you shine a flashlight at your tummy, for instance, she's likely to move away from the beam. There's not much for your baby to taste at this point, but she is forming taste buds.

14 Weeks!

How your baby's growing:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

The Masters

This week as all of you sports/golf fans know, is Masters week here in Augusta Georgia. Last year during the Masters I entered a lottery for tickets. I won (the chance to purchase) 4 tickets to the practice round on Wednesday. This is one of the best days to go. You are able to bring cameras in (score for me) and Wednesday is when they hold the Par 3 contest. Players let loose a little bit and have fun during the Par 3. They let their kids putt or maybe let their Caddy tee off. We got into Augusta National just in time to make it over to #9 on the Par 3 Course. We had our armless folding chairs ready to go. As soon as they opened the ropes it was like thousands of ants swarming to try to get the best area to put their chair. Once you set down your chair your spot is claimed. No one moves your chair all day.

We went and walked the back 9 and saw some of the famous sites. We started on 18 and got to see Tiger Woods.

We then walked all the way to the tee box on 18. Its about 456 yards to the hole and a very narrow fairway.

We hit up a few concessions on the way through the back 9. All of the food was pretty inexpensive. Sandwiches were 2.50, bottled water was 1.50. Everything was "masters" something, Masters Cookies, Masters Chips, etc.

We checked out #16 where the players (during the practice rounds) walk to the edge of the water and try to skip the ball (like skipping rocks) so that the ball glides over the water (with a few splashes) and right into the cup. No one made it but it was fun to see them try. The crowd would chant skip it, skip it, when the pair came up.

We got to see Amen Corner... however of the 30+ azaleas that run along the backside of the hole not 1 was in bloom.... stupid global warming... I will say I was disappointed with the lack of color that usually is scene at Augusta National during Masters week.

Here is what the hole looks like normally...
Here's what it looked like on Wednesday

Here's just a few more pics from our day....
