Spring!

Spring is finally here! Dutch and I have spent the past 3 weekends in the hammock, lounging on the deck, grilling, dinners outside, dogs playing in the yard, listening to good music and just enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. I savor this time (especially this year) before the heat of Atlanta summers. Its also a great excuse to get out of a photography rut.

Check out some of the springtime around the Morgan home...

Brisket of course.... and a sneak peak at our new kitchen island...

Mommy Update - 12w2d

Current Stats:
Baby Size - 2 in Lime
Sleep - Well, Ive been able to sleep closer to my alarm on most nights which is good. I'm still having vivid weird dreams. Nothing crazy or scary, mostly just about my day. I dream about people at work, something I saw on tv, a floor plan Ive been working on etc.... so exciting. Ive also cut out my weekend naps.... for the most part. Ive actually had energy to go grocery shopping, do laundry, have a cookout etc.

Clothes - Still hanging in there....It was so warm last weekend I tried to put on shorts... fail... I realized how shorts usually don't have any stretch in them like so many of the women's jeans do. SOO happy for dress/skirt weather. Still been rocking maxi skirts, and dresses. (however some maxi dresses make you look pregnant even if your not so at least I have room to grow) I found a pair of cargo shorts with an elastic/drawstring waist at Old Navy (they aren't maternity) that I think will get me through the masters next week at least.

Food Aversions- Getting MUCH better. Still pretty picky but My appetite has gotten so much better than it was 2 weeks ago. I still have to make sure I eat every 1-2 hours (if not sooner) or the hunger just makes me feel nauseous. Ive been eating lots of fruit, cheese sticks, peanut butter on crackers, applesauce, etc. between meals just to keep something in my stomach.

Food Cravings - nothing really... Just normal, oh that sounds good moments.

Symptoms - smelling everything..... good or bad. My coworkers tea in the mornings that smells like apple pie, cologne, perfume, someone who is a smoker.... I go in the bathroom at work and there isn't a soul around and I want to pass out with all the cigarette smell...

Looking forward to - Feeling even better. (although less opportunity to milk it...lol) having a more noticeable bump (until it gets huge), my Dr. Appt Friday (no ultrasound but at least a check up/blood work)
The Masters next week! Im thankful that I have more energy and less food aversions and I should be able to enjoy it more than I would have if it was a few months ago. Also looking forward to our gender reveal appointment Friday May 4th!

Missing - cute clothes and pants that fit

How your baby's growing:

The most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, his toes will curl, his eye muscles will clench, and his mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. His intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into his abdominal cavity about now, and his kidneys will begin excreting urine into his bladder.
Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. His face looks unquestionably human: His eyes have moved from the sides to the front of his head, and his ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby-to-be is just over 2 inches long and weighs half an ounce.

Pictures!!!

Here are a few of the pictures we got today. They are a little blurry from me taking a picture with my phone but you get the idea....
Looking at profile, head on left, little hand, body, feet bent

Close up of face, hand

limbs flailing everywhere.... they said it looks like he/she is lounging in a hammock....

Thankfully everything with the appointment went great. Baby was measuring right with their due date (oct 6th) at 11weeks 2 days. Heartbeat was 174 (which to some olds wives tales means a girl) My next appointment is friday the 30th. Then the next ultrasound is friday May 4th.... thats when we will find out the answer the question everyone wants to know.... : )

ok, one website says fig the other says lime... whateves...

How your baby's growing:

Your baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. Her hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under her gums, and some of her bones are beginning to harden.
She's already busy kicking and stretching, and her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as her body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that her diaphragm is forming.

10w3d

Current Stats:
Baby Size - 1 in (fig or kumquat)

Sleep - Ive been pretty tired/exhausted since day one. Long naps on the weekend when I can, and an early bedtime most nights. I have the common pregnancy symptom of weird vivid dreams. Every night... luckily nothing scary so far. Also, during the week, Ive been waking up at 530-600 consistently but have thankfully been able to get right back to sleep. I have been waking up on my back (already) as its a bit more comfortable. I was a solid side sleeper so its a bit surprising. Wouldn't normally be a problem but by the 2nd trimester I need to be only sleeping on my side as it could slow or cut off blood supply to the baby.... I hear a lot of women switch to a maternity wedge pillow to help make sleeping on their side more comfortable.

Clothes - hanging in there with my regular jeans however Only 2-3 pairs are really comfortable these days. I got a bellaband at target which is like a stretch tube top but shorter. It lets you unbutton your jeans at the top and you cover the button with the band. It holds your pants up and just looks like a cami under a long shirt. I hear these are good post baby or also when your maternity pants are still too baggy. There is also the "rubber band trick" where you loop a rubber band through the button and hole of your pants to keep them up. Haven't had to try that just yet. Even though I haven't gained any weight its funny how uncomfortable things become especially sitting at a desk all day. As far as tops go, Ive tried to find all the flowy tops I have while I am still trying to conceal things at work. Its working so far. Oh and the weekend I live in pj pants, and jersey maxi skirts.

Food Aversions- ANYTHING.... well almost anything. Thankfully this is getting better slowly but surly. Pretty much nothing sounds good. Makes for a fun weekend when Dutch wants to go out and I cant make up my mind. Usually nighttime is better. Last night we went out and I ordered a calzone. I was so nauseous out of hunger I didn't want anything to do with it. I was able to eat some of it (and it was tasty) and I started to feel better right away and ended up eating the entire thing. So as long as I'm not stuffed or starving, I can at least find something. I'm thankfully food doesn't make me get physically sick.

Food Cravings - Not sure just yet what equals a craving. There is nothing that I have wanted to drive out in the middle of the night for. I just jump on things when they actually sound good (since not much does these days) I did smell someones tea at work that made me think of apple pie. That night I got a slice (publix sells slices of desserts) but once I got home I had no desire to eat it and it sat on the counter for 3 days. But eventually I ate it and it was yummy... just not much of a craving anymore. I suspect that in a few weeks once I am feeling the joys of the 2nd trimester and this will change.

Symptoms - Tired, Tired, Tired, food aversions, starving nausea, stuffed nausea, burpy, easy exhausted. (I ran some errands Saturday for the first time in a while and was so ready to get home to rest after just a few stops) vivid dreams, occasional crabbiness (ask Dutch), and tearing up at Folgers commercials etc... : )

Looking forward to - Dr. appointment Monday the 19th. Includes an ultrasound. Trying not to be nervous but the control freak in me has a hard time not being able to know what is going on in there and that everything is working properly and doing its job.

Missing - Nothing really. Maybe just having energy and feeling normal. Oh and wanting to eat/enjoying eating.

How your baby's growing:

Though he's barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.
If you could take a peek inside, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Before you got pregnant, your uterus was the size of a small pear. By this week, it's as big as a grapefruit.

03.06.12

Welcome everyone to our Meet the Morgans Blog. Now that we have so many exciting things to share, I will be trying to update this blog weekly. Ill include ultrasound photos, the design of the nursery as it is evolving, millstones, etc.

Currently we are spreading the news to our family and close friends. I don't know how people wait 12+ weeks to tell anyone! That's 3 months of being sick, blowing off plans, not drinking when out with friends, being exhausted etc. Thankfully, I have been only mildly sick (at least compared to some of my gf who in the past couldn't eat a single thing without being sick) To my surprise, pregnancy/morning sickness can be lots of different things for different people. Ive been feeling nauseous most of the day and never physically getting sick. Being STARVING (so starving your nauseous) to being STUFFED (so stuffed your nauseous) to being hungry but having zero appetite for anything. It gets frustrating on the weekends when Dutch and I want to cook or go out to eat. If I didn't have to eat I wouldn't since most things just sound gross. Luckily, most days I can eat small meals throughout the day and manage my hunger/stuffedness and get through the day ok. Bedtime is 930-10pm.... and I try to get in a good 2 hour nap on the weekends.... Sounds like the life huh? HA! I'm just looking forward to the 2nd trimester when I can get some energy back, can enjoy eating, and the bliss of pregnancy... We'll see how that goes .

Shout out to my prego-buddies - Laura, Sarah, and my cousin Jenn. Its nice to have a support system during this new and exciting time.

9 Weeks

How your baby's growing:

Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain.

Then their duet will become a trio....

Dutch and I are happy to announce the newest addition to the Morgan family. Baby Morgan is expexted October 6th 2012!
